Counihan to stay on as Cork manager until 2014

Cork football boss Conor Counihan will remain in charge of the Rebels' Senior panel for the next two years.

Counihan's side reached the semi-finals of this year's All-Ireland championship, going down to eventual champions Donegal, as well as landing the Munster championship, beating arch rivals Kerry en route to the final against Clare.

However, Counihan will be losing the majority of his backroom team as Ger O'Sullivan, Terry O'Neill and Jim Nolan have all stepped dow, with only Peadar Healy staying on.

A statement from the Cork County Board read: "Cork County Board is pleased to announce that Conor Counihan has accepted a further two-year term as Senior Football manager.

"Selectors Ger O'Sullivan, Terry O'Neill and Jim Nolan will not be going forward for a variety of reasons, including work commitments and the length of time they have already committed to these roles.

"In making this announcement, Conor Counihan expressed his immense gratitude to all three for the phenomenal service they have given to Cork football, both under his management and under other managers before him.

"Due to these changes, it is expected that it will be some weeks before the full team of selectors is announced."

Cork's opening encounter in the 2013 Championship will be a clash against Limerick with the winners taking on Clare in the semi-finals of the Munster championship.

"We are delighted that Conor has decided to accept the offer of a further term, and we would like to thank Ger O'Sullivan, Terry O'Neill and Jim Nolan for their huge contribution to Cork GAA", said County Chairman Bob Ryan, commenting on the announcement.
