Beaten FAI Cup finalists St Patrick's Athletic have contacted gardaí in relation to abusive comments about their players left on social networking sites.
The Saints were beaten 3-2 after extra time by Derry City in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, a defeat which extended their barren spell in the Cup to 52 years.
This afternoon the club released a statement on their website condemning the messages attacking their players in particular goalkeeper Brendan Clarke, who conceded a second-half penalty.
"The individuals will be brought in front of our disciplinary board." - St Pat's statement
The statement read: "The players and staff of St Patrick's Athletic wish to express our disgust at some of the comments made on social networking sites towards some of our players and in particular our goalkeeper Brendan Clarke following the FAI Ford Cup final.
"The club does not tolerate bullying or hatred of any kind towards any of our staff, players or fans and have contacted the gardaí in relation to the matter.
"The club are carrying out a full investigation and the individuals will be brought in front of our disciplinary board.
"St Patrick's Athletic are a family club and are extremely proud at the success of our team this year and look forward to another successful season next year."
