GAA to investigate racism claims at Ulster final

The GAA's Ulster Council has said it will investigate claims that Crossmaglen's Aaron Cunningham was racially abused during yesterday's Ulster Club SFC final against Kilcoo.

Cunningham, whose father is black, says that two of the Kilcoo panel racially abused him during the game.

In a statement, Ulster GAA said that it is an "anti-racist organisation by rule and will not tolerate, in the strongest and most emphatic terms, racist abuse of any type".

Kilcoo GAC have since released a statement of their own which read: "Kilcoo GAC is an all inclusive club which prides itself in appealing to all sections of our community, and is shocked and saddened to hear of any allegations of racial abuse following the Ulster Club final.

"We as a club condemn abuse from whatever quarter and shall co-operate fully with any investigation instigated by Ulster Council."

After the game, Cunningham told RTÉ Sport: "I got it [the abuse] in the first half, after 20 minutes and then there was a wee bit of provocation behind us here from the stand.

"Whenever you're playing football at this high standard, you're all grown men. To be subjected to that kind of abuse is disgusting, to be honest."
