New Dublin senior football manager Jim Gavin has added former world boxing champion Bernard Dunne to his backroom team for the 2013 season.
Dunne has been handed the role as the team's sports performance and lifestyle coach – where he will strive to help all squad members realise their potential.
Gavin, however, stressed that Dunne will have no involvement in team selection or tactics. The two men previously worked together when Gavin was manager of the Dublin U-21 side.
The annual New Year's Day Challenge saw Dublin defeat the Dubs Stars by 0-16 to 1-11 and the former super-bantamweight champion was on the sideline at the St Peregrine's ground in Blanchardstown.
Dublin begin their O'Byrne Cup against Carlow on Sunday next and Gavin has no problem freeing up any squad members to play for their colleges in the pre-season competition.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport's Brian Carthy, he said: "The support systems operated by the colleges are great, particularly in the tough economic times we live in rgarding scholarships, having books and fees paid for and so on.
"Knowing the coaches in the universities and colleges, particularly in Dublin, I can testify to the amount of work being done in the promotion of gaelic games.
"I think it's important that we support these coaches, so I'm quite happy to let players line out for their colleges in the O'Byrne Cup."
