Ireland rally to win opener in India

Ireland recovered from a disastrous start in their World League round two match with Bangladesh as Alan Sothern's hat-trick helped secure a 5-2 victory in Delhi.

AHM Kamruzzaman and Mamunur Rahman Chayan gave Bangladesh a two-goal lead inside 19 minutes but Sothern deflected in a shot to reduce the deficit soon afterwards.

Pete Brown's interception set up the equaliser for Sothern in the 29th minute.

Chris Cargo finished from Shane O'Donoghue pass to put Ireland in front just before half-time.

O'Donoghue increased the Irish lead after the break and Sothern sealed his hat-trick with a fine finish from Magee's sweeping cross to complete the win.

Ireland play four more games over the next week, with the top seven placed teams across the four World League 2 tournaments qualifying for World League 3 in June.

The next match will be against Fiji on Wednesday.
