Cody dismisses Kilkenny injury 'breaking point'

Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody has played down any talk of injury crisis within his squad, insisting that the strength of his panel will ensure there is never a breaking point.

The likes of Michael Fennelly, Henry Sheflin, TJ Reid, Michael Walsh and Cillian Buckley all had to sit out Kilkenny's 2-15 to 0-16 league victory over Waterford at the weekend, while JackieTyrell and Paul Murphy join their lengthening injury list during that game.

Despite that, Cody is confident that his panel is strong enough to cope and when asked whether his squad had reached breaking point with injuries, he insisted that it's business as usual.

He told the Kilkenny People: "A breaking point can't exist. There can't be a breaking point. We have a panel. There are plenty of hurlers in it. That is the way it works.

"When someone gets injured, someone else comes in and gets an opportunity. That is the way life in sports goes. That is the way we work with the panel," the Kilkenny boss insisted.

"Our panel is being tested, which is great to see. The team we had picked Richie Power (flu) was ruled out and Conor Fogarty was ruled out. He would be another option. Then we lost Jackie and we lost paul. It is a lot.

"That is when the rest of lads have to stand up and battle it out. We did that and we came out on the right side of things."
