Gavin satisfied after Dublin victory over Mayo

Dublin boss Jim Gavin declared himself satisfied after his side saw off Mayo's challenge in Croke Park on Saturday night, despite being reduced to 14 men in the second half.

Defender Ger Brennan was red-carded after getting involved in a scuffle with a number of Mayo players after the referee had blown for a foul.

The hosts were a point ahead before the incident but Kevin McLoughlin hit two quick-fire points to put the 2012 All-Ireland finalists into the lead.

However, Bernard Brogan and Kevin McMenamon led a fightback and Dublin claimed their third league win in a row, 2-14 to 0-16.

Speaking after the game, Gavin told RTÉ Sport: "The heart and resolve in the guys (was the most pleasing aspect), we were down to 14 men for part of the second half and the commitment was satisfying.

"But it's only three games out of the National League so we're not even halfway there.

"We've four games to go, big challenges ahead of us, Kildare next week, Tyrone, Down and finish off with Donegal so nothing easy."

Meanwhile, Mayo boss James Horan paid tribute to the Leinster champions and admitted that he has work to do.

"We'd a chance to win that game even though we were patchy throughout. In the end Dublin's fitness and skill and their greater return from shots [won it]," said Horan.

"They deserved the game but we've a lot to take from that and a lot to work on."
