Slevin says Offaly champs in 'bonus' territory

Kilcormac-Killoughey captain Ciarán Slevin says they are in "bonus" territory ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland Club hurling final against St Thomas'.

The Offaly side won their first county Championship, beating St Ryanagh's, and then followed it up with a Leinster title, accounting for favourites Oulart-The Ballagh of Wexford.

And with nothing to lose, they saw off Lar Corbett's Thurles Sarsfields in the All-Ireland semi.

"We just said we'd try to win a county Championship and if we did that, anything else would be a bonus," Slevin told the Irish Times.

"I suppose we have come in under the radar, but then Offaly hurling can't be that bad, with two clubs making the last two All-Ireland finals (Coolderry were beaten last year). I think our lads just gelled together this year."

The Leinster champions will have to do without star forward Daniel Currams who broke his arm in a challenge game last week.

Unsurprisingly, they'll go into the Croke Park encounter as underdogs once again, even though Connacht champions St Thomas' are also contesting their first All-Ireland final.

Slevin added: "We watched them in the Galway county final, and do play a nice brand of hurling. Their forwards seem to move around a good bit, no one really sticks to their positions.

"And David Bourke, James Regan, Conor Cooney all played for Galway last year, and have that great experience of playing in Croke Park before.

"But then it's a big day for their club, first time in an All-Ireland final, and like that in the same boat as ourselves."
