Champions Kilkenny slumped to a second successive Allianz Hurling League Division 1A defeat this afternoon as Tipperary gained revenge for last August's thumping All-Ireland semi-final defeat with a 2-17 to 1-19 win.
Both teams finished with 14 men at Semple Stadium as Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh and Tipp's Noel McGrath were both red-carded in the second half.
In front of 5697 spectators, Tipp led by 2-11 to 1-8 at half-time, in bitterly cold conditions. Richie Hogan scored the game's opening goal for Kilkenny but Tipp responded through John O'Dwyer and Lar Corbett, who bagged his first competive goal for Tipp since the 2011 All-Ireland semi-final victory over Dublin.
