Glenn Whelan has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland team for tonight's World Cup qualifier against Sweden in Stockholm.
The Stoke midfielder is struggling with an ankle knock, and as a result James McCarthy looks set to come into the team to partner Paul Green.
Whelan was taken off at half-time in last week's match with West Brom.
He also sat out Ireland's training session in Malahide last Monday.
It remains to be seen if he is named on the bench with Tuesday's game with Austria in the Aviva Stadium in mind.
Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that the roof will be closed at the Friends Arena for the game.
