Kilkenny hurling boss Brian Cody has taken a break from inter-county management after undergoing planned cardiac surgery.
The Kilkenny county board confirmed that the Cats manager will not be involved with the reigning All-Ireland champions for several weeks.
The surgery, which was described as 'pre-planned', took place yesterday.
In a statement on the Kilkenny website they said that Cody was recovering in hospital and in "good form".
Selector Martin Fogarty and team trainer Michael Dempsey will take the over the running of the side in Cody's absence.
Brian Cody has guided Kilkenny to nine All-Ireland titles since taking over in 1999.
