Kerry football manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice says he is relieved that his side secured Division 1 status and is now looking forward to the Championship.
The Kingdom travelled to Healy Park on Sunday and came away with a one-point victory over Tyrone and that, coupled with Donegal's draw with Dublin, ensured that the green and gold stay in the top flight.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Fitzmaurice was pleased with the manner in which they edged out their Ulster rivals. "We knew it would be tough to get something from Healy Park. But we put in a performance, especially in the first half and we held on for the win. Results elsewhere went our way and so we stay up.
"It's a great relief to be still in Division 1. We can look forward to the championship with renewed belief."
Kerry have now won three matches on the bounce and produced their best performance so far this spring in that opening period against the Red Hand.
According to the manager, a week away in Portugal had a beneficial effect.
"I think the training camp helped us a lot and the work we put in out there came to fruition against Tyrone.
"In saying that, there are things to work on, considering the way Tyrone controlled most of the second half.
"It is seven weeks to our next competitive game and all our focus will be on that clash."
