Lennon hoping for home title party

Neil Lennon is looking for a "joyous" occasion at Celtic Park tomorrow as his side seek to clinch the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title against Inverness.

Second-placed Motherwell's 3-1 win at Dundee United last night leaves the Hoops looking for one point against Caley to secure the championship at home for the first time since 5 April, 2006, when John Hartson scored in a 1-0 win over Hearts.

Lennon's side reached the William Hill Scottish Cup final with a 4-3 semi-final win over Dundee United at Hampden last week and he hopes to give a big home crowd another treat.

"We haven't won it (title) in front of our fans for a long, long time," the Hoops boss said.

"I think the last time we did it was under Gordon Strachan against Hearts when big John got the winner so it would be lovely to win the title in front of the home support, and I am hoping it will be a full house.

"It should be very joyous. We have an exciting three or four weeks leading up to the final.

"It is just rewards for the efforts of the players. It has been a great season and I am so proud of them.

"We are on the brink of another championship which I can tell you that is a very special occasion.

"I'm really pleased that we won the semi-final last week, that was huge for momentum for the rest of the season.

"I hope they play the way we know they can tomorrow.

"I hope we get a full house, I hope the supporters get right behind the team, I'm sure they will and I hope they enjoy their day."

The former Celtic skipper will sit in the stand after a three-game touchline ban which hung over him from last year was triggered when he was found guilty of a misconduct charge in midweek, and he revealed some of his players will also be taken out of the firing line over the next few weeks.

With an early start to next season due to Champions League qualifiers starting in mid-July, Lennon will give some of his squad time off before the cup final against Hibernian at the end of the season.

The Northern Irishman said: "We have already made plans for the players to get a holiday and we will stagger that over the next few weeks and then we will have everyone back two to three weeks before the cup final.

"Some of these players are playing through June and we are going to be back mid-July for pre-season games and the Champions League qualifiers, so they need a rest and this is the only opportunity we can give them, really."

Defender Mikael Lustig insists the Celtic squad is strong enough to cope with rotation in the final few weeks of the season.

He said: "I think a few players will get rest but we have a big squad and the guys who come in will make a difference.

"We have shown the whole season that we have a strong squad and the players who came in played good football."
