Goalkeeper
Mark McGinley (UCD)
The UCD goalkeeper, aided by a solid back four in front of him, helped to keep his side in front during the early stages of their 3-0 win over Cork City. After scoring a goal in the opening minutes of the game, the Students found themselves forced back into their own half and needed McGinley's reactions and dominance of the penalty area to keep them in front. The second goal took the life out of Cork after the break but it was McGinley who denied them until then.
Defenders
Hugh Douglas (UCD)
Douglas scored UCD's third against Cork City but his no-nonsense style at the back was one of the main reasons they kept a clean sheet. The stocky defender showed great positional sense and no little bravery in repelling the Leesiders' attacks.
Simon Madden (Derry)
The Derry City full back was the star of the show as his side kept up the pressure on league leaders St Pat's with a 2-1 victory over Bohemians. Madden helped to create both of his side's goals, firstly picking out a deep cross for Patrick McEleney to drill home before laying the second on a plate for Simon Rafter with a pinpoint cross. Madden was also solid at the back when needed and frustrated Bohemians' attempts to build down the right.
Shane Tracey (Limerick)
Much like Derry's Madden, Shane Tracey helped to run the show for Limerick from the fullback position. There was little he could do about either of Dundalk's two goals early on, but he helped to spark an impressive fight-back with a sweetly curled effort on the 55th minute and was a constant threat going forward without ever neglecting his defensive duties.
Midfielders
Robert Bayly (Shelbourne)
The former Ireland underage international marked his return to the starting eleven with a fine, gutsy display. Up against Joseph Ndo in the middle of the park, Bayly worked his socks off and tried to get Shels going forward at every opportunity before tiring in the second half.
Kieran Djilali (Sligo Rovers)
Djilali epitomised all that was good about Sligo's attacking verve as he was always a threat when running at the Shels defence in trying to open it up. Djilali capped his fine display with Sligo's deserved second goal.
John Russell (St Patrick's Ath)
All sides need a strong character at the heart of things and Pat's have that in John Russell. Once again Russell played a vital part as Pat's snatched another vital three points in their pursuit of the league title. He is arguably the heart beat that keeps the Saints ticking and ticking.
Sean O'Connor (Shamrock Rovers)
The Rovers winger scored a wonder goal from 40 yards out when there looked like nothing on. But all evening he was at the heart of the majority of his side's attacks. He set up Gary McCabe's second goal, the games third, which effectively killed off Drogheda and secure the win for Rovers.
Gary McCabe (Shamrock Rovers)
McCabe only came on in the second half and made an instant impact with two great goals. His positioning for both goals was excellent, getting to the back post ahead of the defenders for his first. He gave Rovers a real edge going forward and even after the goals continued to hassle and harry the Drogheda defence.
Forwards
David McMillan (UCD)
The UCD striker struck two vital goals, one a tap-in and one a goal of the season contender from 35 yards, as the Students got back to winning ways against Cork City. In doing so he shot to third in the all-time league scorers list for UCD on 40 goals. If he keeps up that form he will give Martin Russell's side a great chance of staying up.
Christy Fagan (St Patrick's Ath)
Another good night's work for the St Pat's man against Bray Wanderers with two more goals to bring his tally to nine in all competitions this season. The hard-working Pat's number nine has been in great form all season and Liam Buckley will be hoping he can deliver the goods against VMFD Žalgiris in Thursday's Europa League tie in Lithuania.
