Sycerika McMahon has set a new Irish record for the 100m freestyle in Barcelona this morning.
McMahon won her heat in 56.19 seconds from lane four at the World Championships.
The Irish record was last set by Bangor's Clare Dawson at 56.32.
However, McMahon fell outside of the top 16 and will not progress to the semi-finals.
She said: "It was a really fun swim, just to go out there and do the 100 Freestyle, not an event I'd usually swim, it felt good and I'm happy with the result."
McMahon will now depart for Texas later this month to take up a swimming scholarship with Texas A&M.
Fiona Doyle was also in action this morning, the 21-year-old who finished 11th overall in the 100m Breaststroke earlier this week, was just outside her Irish 200m Breaststroke Record of 2:30.21 in a time of 2:30.49 to secure a top 20 place in the World.
Barry Murphy will be the only Irish swimmer in action at the World Championships tomorrow.
Murphy will swim the 50m Freestyle heats, an event in which he is the current Irish Record Holder in 22.14 seconds set in 2009.
