Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche will lead Ireland's challenge in the Road World Championships road race on Sunday.
The duo are capable of winning in Florence after strong seasons on the road and were confirmed in Cycling Ireland's team this morning.
Martin won the prestigious one-day race Liege-Bastogne-Liege and stage nine of the Tour de France and his cousin Roche, the son of 1987 world champion Stephen Roche, won a stage of the Vuelta a Espana, in which he finished fifth overall.
The pair will be joined in Ireland's four-man team by Sam Bennett, a stage winner at the Tour of Britain, and Matt Brammeier, four times the Irish road race champion.
In the Elite Women's Road Race, Irish riders Olivia Dillon and Melanie Spath will compete.
Both riders honed their preparations for the World Championships on the Irish Team in Rás na mBan, where they finished in first and second place overall, in a strong international field of riders.
In total, eleven Irish riders will compete across the Junior, Under-23 and Elite Men and Women categories at the championships in Toscana.
The Championships run from the 22–29 September, with Ireland entering strong teams across these events.
This afternoon in the Men's Under-23 Time Trial, Ireland will have two entrants, Ryan Mullen and Marcus Christie.
In his first year out of Junior, Mullen has already stamped his mark in the Under-23 ranks, winning two bronze medals in the European Under-23 Track Championships earlier this summer.
Christie, who recently returned to competition, has been performing strongly in Belgium this season, and secured his place on the Irish team, following a third place in the Port Talbot Time Trial this month.
