Rovers and Drogheda battle for Cup success

Shamrock Rovers will be looking to secure their second Cup win of the season as they take on Drogheda United in this evening's EA SPORTS Cup final at Tallaght Stadium, kick-off 6.00pm.

It will be the third cup final meeting in 12 months between the two clubs with Drogheda having won the 2012 EA SPORTS Cup and Shamrock Rovers winning the 2013 Setanta Sports Cup.

Mark Quigley is suspended for Rovers, while Ronan Finn (groin), Eamon Zayed (back), Derek Foran (illness) and Karl Sheppard (abdomen) are all doubts and will be assessed before the game.

Hoops boss Trevor Croly said: "It's a cup final, so obviously everybody is very much up for the game.

"There is no point in getting to a cup final if you don't win it, so we'll be going out to do our best to get the win. We have had a good week and we're well prepared for the match."

Gavin Brennan and Mick Daly have returned from suspension to the Drogheda squad, while Cathal Brady has recovered from his thigh problem.

As a result, Mick Cooke will have a fully fit squad to pick from for the trip to Tallaght.

Cooke said: "It's a nice problem to have, a fully fit squad for the final and each and every one of them are vying for a place in the starting eleven.

"It's always a great occasion playing Rovers in Tallaght, there should be a huge crowd with a great atmosphere and obviously when you win something you want to retain it and that's what we will be setting out to do."

The PFAI will be providing blue armbands for all players, match officials and technical staff in order to raise awareness of male cancer following Drogheda United's Gary O'Neill being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Following agreement between Drogheda United and Shamrock Rovers and both sets of players, who are generously forgoing their bonuses for the EA Sports Cup Final, half of the total prize fund from the final will be donated to Gary O'Neill with the Football Association of Ireland adding a further €5,000.
