Michael Conlan has moved up from flyweight to bantamweight for the AIBA World Men's Elite Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan this month.
Irish head coach Billy Walsh confirmed that the London 2012 bronze medallist will fight in the 56kg class.
Conlan, a silver medallist at flyweight at the 2013 European Elite Championships, boxed at the WSB bantam limit of 54kg for the USA Knockouts last season.
Team Ireland sparred with Azerbaijan in Almaty last Saturday and will meet Cuba today and Wednesday to complete their fine tuning process.
The 17th AIBA World Men's Elite Championships officially begin on Friday with boxing starting on Monday next.
