Last year's winner Captain Chris is one of only seven entries in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot on Saturday.
Philip Hobbs' nine-year-old, who finished second behind Long Run in last season's King George VI Chase, is forced to concede weight to all his rivals in the Grade Two contest.
Stiff opposition is likely to come from the Paul Nicholls-trained Al Ferof, winner of last season's Paddy Power Gold Cup but out of action since then through injury.
Another Grade One winner is Nicky Henderson's Captain Conan, who enjoyed a great first season over fences.
The giant six-year-old won the Henry VIII and Scilly Isles novices' chases at Sandown and bounced back from finishing only fifth at Cheltenham to win the Grade One Manifesto Chase at Aintree.
Henderson may also run French Opera.
Evan Williams also has two possibles, WIlliam's Wishes, who is also entered in the Carey Group Chase which he won 12 months ago, and Lancetto.
Colin Tizzard's consistent Oiseau De Nuit makes up the field.
