Jezki lands feature race at Fairyhouse

Jezki remains unbeaten this season after justifying odds-on favouritism in the feature Bar One Racing Hatton's Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

A three-times Grade One winner last season, Jessica Harrington's stable star made a winning return at Down Royal a month ago and was a 4-6 favourite stepped up to two and a half miles for the first time.

Diakali was sent into a long lead by Paul Townend, but his four pursuers closed up rounding the home turn and Jezki, carrying the colours of JP McManus, looked to be travelling far better than his rivals in the hands of Tony McCoy.

Diakali stuck on admirably, however, and McCoy had to rouse his mount after the final flight, at which he made a blunder.

Jezki stuck to his task to score by a length and three-quarters, with last year's winner Zaidpour coming through to grab second from his stablemate Diakali.

McCoy, who rode McManus' My Tent Or Yours to win the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday, said: "It was a good enough performance. He's done it pretty well and was very professional.

"He's missed the last (hurdle) a bit, but for 10 or 12 strides he pricked his ears and I thought I had a bit left, so it was just a case of letting him get over it.

"Away from the back of the last, when I gave him a squeeze, he picked up again. He's a smart horse.

"He's a bit like the horse that won yesterday (My Tent Or Yours). They are good novices from last year, but they have to improve to beat Hurricane Fly."

Harrington said: "The horse going off miles in front is not good for the nerves, but he made the ground up easy.

"It was looking all right until the last and he made a nonsense of it. I don't think AP (McCoy) had to hit him, maybe just a slap down the shoulder. AP was very pleased with him.

"He proved he gets two and a half miles and that's the main thing, but he'd be better over a fast run two miles.

"He's a lot more relaxed than he was. He dropped the bridle and travelled nice and relaxed today. That also helped him get the trip.

"He's definitely better going left-handed and we'll keep him at two miles.

"The owner has got My Tent Or Yours as well, so I suppose it will all depend what they want to do.

"We'll let the dust settle before we make a plan."

The Tullow Tank repaid the faith of his connections by claiming victory in a thrilling Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

The Philip Fenton-trained five-year-old looked the part when winning a maiden hurdle at Naas in early November and owner Barry Connell was happy to supplement him for this Grade One contest.

Willie Mullins' front-runner Renneti briefly looked to have shaken off his rivals in the straight, but The Tullow Tank and Danny Mullins reeled him in after the final flight to score by half a length.

Renneti was a clear second, finishing ahead of stable companions Arctic Fire and Alonso in third and fourth respectively.

Analifet kept her unbeaten record intact with a bloodless victory in the Bar One Racing Juvenile 3-Y-O Hurdle.

A winner at Compiegne in France in early May, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned filly bolted up on her debut for Mullins at Punchestown a fortnight ago and was a 30-100 favourite for this Grade Three assignment.

Sent straight to the head of affairs by Ruby Walsh, Analifet travelled powerfully and hurdled fluently and it was clear from the home turn she had her rivals in serious trouble.

Stable companion Noble Inn, nine lengths away in second at Punchestown, once again came through to fill the runner-up spot, this time beaten six and a half lengths.

Don Cossack knuckled down in determined fashion for Davy Russell to take top honours in the Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase.

Always held in the highest regard by trainer Gordon Elliott, the giant six-year-old bolted up on his chasing bow at Galway in late October before going down narrowly to Morning Assembly in a thriller at Punchestown two weeks ago.

Sent off 13-8 favourite for his latest assignment, Don Cossack fenced fluently, but looked booked for minor honours as Galway Plate hero Carlingford Lough went a couple of lengths clear between the final two fences.

However, Don Cossack got closer on the approach to the final obstacle and a bold jump brought him alongside McCoy's mount.

The two settled down to fight it out on the run to the line, with Don Cossack winning the argument by a length and three-quarters.
