Captain Cutter provided Nicky Henderson with a welcome and timely big-race success just 24 hours after Sprinter Sacre's Kempton setback when landing the £35,000 Betfred Goals Galore Challow Novices' Hurdle at Newbury.
The JP McManus-owned gelding had something to find with a couple of his rivals on the book, but produced a much more accomplished round of jumping than had been the case for his triumphs at Kempton and Market Rasen.
After the second-last, both he and Timesremembered were moving ominously well but Tony McCoy had the last-named rival covered and sent Captain Cutter on before the final flight.
The combination maintained a clear advantage to the line to score by four and a half lengths
With Henderson at Leopardstown to saddle Bobs Worth in the Lexus Chase, assistant Patrick Harty said: "He seemed to jump better going left-handed and AP thought that also.
"The heavy ground suited him and he stayed on well all the way to the line.
"He will get three miles, so we'll have to see come Cheltenham time if he's good enough to be an Albert Bartlett horse."
McCoy added: "He's progressed with each run, but that was a big step up today and very pleasing."
