Raheny survive scare and close in on title

Bus Éireann Women's National League champions Raheny United survived a real scare from Castlebar Celtic to maintain their five point lead at the top of the table with two games left.

The Pandas were stunned to fall behind in the tenth minute when Ireland Under-19 international star Sarah Rowe fired home for the visitors.

Siobhan Killeen grabbed an important equaliser for the north Dublin outfit and Clare Shine turned provider to set up the winner for Noelle Murray midway through the second half.

Catherine Cronin hit the bar late on for Raheny but Celtic passed up an injury-time opportunity to level matters that would have given second-placed Peamount United a major boost.

Peamount maintained the pressure at the top of the division when they beat Galway WFC 6-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park. Aine O'Gorman grabbed a hat-trick in the first half then Stephanie Roche, Jetta Berrill and Julie-Ann Russell all hit the target after the break to seal a one-sided victory.

Cork Women's FC continued their season of woe with a 10-0 home loss to Wexford Youths, who are hitting form in the run-in.

Wexford led 3-0 at the break thanks to a Katie McCarthy hat-trick and she added a fourth in the second half. Rianna Jarrett notched a second half hat-trick while Ciara Rossiter, Jess Gleeson from a penalty and Aoibheann Webb also found the net for the Model County side.

In the other fixture Shamrock Rovers picked up their seventh point from nine with a hard-earned scoreless draw at DLR Waves. Rovers passed up a chance to take the lead through Laura Chambers in the first half while DLR missed the target in a late incident that could have secured the victory.
