SSE Airtricity League team of the week

Goalkeeper
Conor O'Donnell (UCD)

The College keeper had to be on his game as Shamrock Rovers laid virtual siege to his goal for much of Monday's game. Though the Hoops hit the woodwork three times in the first half alone, but O'Donnell made terrific saves from Gary McCabe and Jason McGuinness before succumbing in the second half.

Defence
Sean Hoare (St Pat's)

Preferred in defence to Derek Foran on Monday and on his first league start, Hoare impressed throughout. Admittedly, he wasn't overly tested but he was composed and efficient in the first-half both on the ball and when marshalling the imposing Akinade.

Aidan Price (Bohemians)
The centre back did a brilliant job of curtailing the influence of Philly Gorman, Athlone's leading attacking threat who came into Monday's game in great form after bagging two against Drogheda on Friday. Price was assured and physically solid throughout, letting little or nothing get past him.

Jeff Henderson (Sligo Rovers)

Henderson has been a shining light in what has been a difficult start to 2014 for Sligo Rovers. He was dominant again on Monday night against a threatening Drogheda United attack. Sligo will look to the former Newcastle United defender in the coming weeks as they make difficult trips to Cork, St Pat's, Bohemians and Limerick.

Darragh Reynor (Bohemians)
Reynor was solid defensively in Bohemians games against Bray and Athlone but he also played a major attacking role in this game, sprinting up and down the flanks and sending countless excellent deliveries into the penalty area.

Andy Boyle (Dundalk)
Boyle turned on the style in his side's victory against champions St Pat's, helping to frustrate one of the best midfields in the league. His anticipation of play was outstanding and he did a fine job protecting his goal and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to snuff out any trouble before it could develop

Midfield
Keith Fahey (St Pats)

Fahey returned to the starting line-up against Bray and his impact was conspicuous. The former Irish international sat deep in the midfield triangle and dictated proceedings from the outset with an authoritative display. He conducted those around him by barking out orders and inspiration as well as orchestrating everything good about Pat's.

Billy Dennehy (Cork City)
The former Shamrock Rovers player turned in a fine display against his old team, coming back to haunt them in a 3-0 victory.  Dennehy opened the scoring early on when he was quickest to react to a loose ball in the penalty area and he went on to create the second with a fine cross for Mark O'Sullivan.

James O'Brien (Athlone Town)
Athlone had several impressive performers against Drogheda, with James O'Brien just shading keeper Paul Skinner and Graham Rusk with his driving runs from midfield. His composure was a feature of the game even before Athlone's comeback and Drogheda never fully got to grips with his inventive play.

Forwards
Declan O'Brien (Drogheda United)

Age is no barrier to the man they call 'Fabio' as he looks as sharp as ever approaching his 35th birthday. Against Athlone he scored with three close-range finishes, could easily have scored more goals and contributed handsomely to the Boynesiders' attacking play and followed that up with a goal to give his side a point against Sligo.

Mark O'Sullivan (Cork City)
Playing as a lone striker is often a thankless role but O'Sullivan put in a fine display against Shamrock Rovers, and didn't give the visitor's defence a moment's peace. The big target man scored with a fine header from Dennehy's cross and had another goal ruled out.
