Lynam looks to skies ahead of Temple Stakes

Eddie Lynam will leave a decision on Sole Power's participation in Saturday's Betfred Temple Stakes until as late as possible.

The County Meath handler declared the seven-year-old globetrotter on Thursday morning, with the ground described as good to firm.

But with up to 20 millimetres of rain forecast, the going is likely to be a good deal softer by the weekend.

"He's travelling tonight but whether he runs or not is purely down to the ground," said Lynam.

"They were calling it good to firm on Thursday morning but the forecast is very poor.

"I think the worse ground I'd run him on would be good to soft.

"The clerk of the course did say that if they got 10mm today and that was it, it would probably go back to good by Saturday. We'll just have to see.

"I'd love to be in a position where I could make a decision now but I'm not."

Sole Power is one of 10 declarations, with Oisin Murphy booked to ride Hot Streak.

With Jamie Spencer going to Ireland to ride Obliterator in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, the mount on Kevin Ryan's three-year-old, and that of David Barron's Pearl Secret, were up for grabs.

Hot Streak ran a great race on his return to action when third in the Palace House Stakes, while Graham Gibbons has been declared for Pearl Secret, who finished eighth in the same race.

The respective first two home in the Palace House, Sole Power and Kingsgate Native, are old adversaries and could clash again.

They are both regulars in the Temple Stakes, having won three of the past four renewals between them.

Jim Goldie is doubly represented with stable stars Jack Dexter and Hawkeyethenoo, but both need to bounce back from disappointing runs in the Duke of York last week.

Roger Varian saddle Justineo, while Mirza runs for Rae Guest.

Smoothtalkinrascal gives owners Cheveley Park Stud a second runner along with Kingsgate Native, with the David Elsworth-trained Justice Day also declared.
