James McGee has missed out on a place in the main draw at the French Open after losing his third-round qualifier to Italy's Andrea Arnaboldi at Roland Garros.
Arnaboldi, the world number 174, defeated the Dubliner 6-3 6-4 in just over an hour in Paris.
McGee overcame two higher-ranked opponents in the first two rounds of qualifying, but a hat-trick of upsets on the red clay proved beyond the world number 244 on Court 11 this afternoon.
The 27-year-old hit 17 winners to his opponents 16, but also registered seven more unforced errors.
Despite today's disappointment, McGee can take succour from the fact that his exploits in the City of Light means he could rise to a career-high perch in the world rankings after racking up eight ATP points for reaching the last round of qualifying.
