Power seeks Punchestown prize

Annie Power will face a maximum of five rivals when she bids to get back to winning ways in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Champion Hurdle at Punchestown on Saturday.

The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old was unbeaten in her first 10 competitive starts, but met with defeat for the first time when finding More Of That too strong in the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

She will be long odds-on to regain winning ways this weekend, however, in the hands of Ruby Walsh.

Mullins has also declared Glens Melody and Florishwells D'Ete, although that pair appear far from certain to line up given they are due to run on Thursday.

The biggest threat to Annie Power appears to be John Quinn's British raider Cockney Sparrow, who defeated My Tent Or Yours in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr.

However, she was a faller when Annie Power won at Doncaster earlier this season and looked unlikely to land a telling blow.

The Jarlath Fahey-trained Jennies Jewel and Kevin Prendergast's Katie T complete the field for the two-and-a-quarter-mile Grade One test.
