True Story team hoping for drying ground

Saeed bin Suroor has warned True Story will only line up in Thursday's Betfred Dante Stakes at York if the ground dries up.

With the going on the Knavesmire currently soft after a weekend of heavy rain, the participation of the Investec Derby second-favourite had been put in some doubt.

True Story was declared at the 48-hour stage, although Bin Suroor issued the proviso that he would only run if the ground was suitable.

"I think that True Story will be fine on good to soft ground, but we wouldn't want the going to be too soft for him," said the Godolphin trainer.

"The forecast at York is for dry weather from Wednesday onwards and we will make a final decision about his participation nearer the time.

"True Story is ready to go and we are aiming to run him at York at the moment."

Godolphin's big Investec Derby hope shot to prominence in the Epsom Classic betting when slamming his rivals in the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket, where all three of his outings have been to date.

He holds an alternative engagement at Newmarket on Saturday in the Tamdown Fairway Stakes.

Connections of Arod are also on weather watch and have warned their Windsor maiden winner will only run if the ground is suitable.

Richard Hannon has always held Bunker in high regard and Frankie Dettori's mount beat subsequent French Guineas winner Karakontie in a Listed race last season.

James Given's Odeon won a Redcar maiden by a wide margin to book his spot, while Kevin Ryan will try to keep the prize in Yorkshire with The Grey Gatsby, second in the Craven Stakes to Toormore but unplaced in the Guineas.

The six-runner field is completed by James Fanshawe's maiden Saab Almanal.
