Carl Frampton will fight Kiko Martinez for the Spaniard's IBF world super bantamweight title on 6 September in Northern Ireland, with the venue still to be confirmed.
Frampton has been on course for a world title challenge for the past 12 months and the Belfast fighter has proven he is worth his title-shot with convincing wins over the likes of Jeremy Parodi, in a European title defence, and Hugo Cazares, in a world title eliminator.
Frampton previously stopped Martinez in the ninth round of their clash at the Odyssey Arena in February 2013, when the Tiger Bay-native got his hands on Martinez's European title.
Following the announcement of the fight today, Frampton said: "I'm over the moon to be fighting for a world title in my hometown, I have to thank my team for making this happen and now it's time for me to deliver.
"I am fully focused on 6 September and Martinez. It's been my dream since I started boxing to become a world champion and I have worked so hard to get this far, now is the time for me to fulfill that dream in front of the best fans in the world."
Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan said that his charge's title shot is the least he deserves and they hope to reveal a confirmed venue in the near future.
McGuigan, the former world featherweight champion, said: "Carl has proven time and again that he deserves to be a world champion and now he will get his chance to become one, in the best circumstances possible, without any options on his future and in front of his devoted home fans.
"We are in discussions with a number of venues and we will announce the venue of the fight shortly."

Martinez, who captured the IBF title in August last year and has since made two successful defences in Spain and Japan, said he will not be content until he has righted an 'off night' in Belfast 16 months ago.
"Since the 9th of February 2013, when I get up at five in the morning to go training, I remember him. For me, to defeat him is a greater motivation than the chance to unify the belts," said Martinez.
"I will never forget that night and I will prove that it was just a bad day for me. I am world champion now and my legacy will be bigger for facing Carl Frampton."
