Shane Lowry sees no reason why he can't be a contender at this week's US Open.
After a slow start to the season, the Offaly man comes into the tournament full of confidence with a second-place finish at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in between solid if not spectacular showings in Spain and Sweden.
Speaking ahead of his second appearance at the US Open, Lowry told RTÉ Sport: "I'm very confident, to be honest, I feel like I am playing as good as I have ever been. I feel like I am mentally as good as I have been ever as well.
"There's no reason why I can't go out there and contend this week and give myself a chance. If I get off to a bad start I just need to stick in there. If I get off to a good start I just need to keep sticking in there as well.
"It's that type of golf course, you need to fight out there and I feel like that's the type of golf I play.
"There's no reason why I can't win, I feel like I'm good enough. Wentworth is one of the strongest fields we play in all year and [I] all but won that. Someone's going to win so it might as well be me."

But the 27-year-old is also aware that the course at Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina, the no-rough par-70 No. 2, will pose plenty of problems.
He said: "I heard a lot of things about [there] being no rough out there but that doesn't mean you can hit it everywhere. There's a lot of trouble out there if you go off the fairways.
"It's going to be very tough. Survival this week is what it's going to be all about, holing putts for pars and getting up and down, and trying to keep the big numbers off your card."
