Emmet McDonnell has resigned as Offaly manager after the county's All-Ireland SFC qualifiers round 1 defeat to Wicklow on Saturday.
McDonnell took over ahead of last year's campaign, when The Faithful County's footballers also made an early qualifiers exit at the hands of Tyrone.
He did steer Offaly to promotion to Division 3 after a successful Allianz Football League campaign in 2013 but they were relegated back to the bottom tier this term after failing to win a single game.
Offaly also lost their Leinster Championship opener to Longford last month.
Offaly minor manager Pascal Kellaghan is among the early favourites to replace McDonnell.
A statement from the county board said: "Emmet McDonnell has informed Offaly County Board that he is stepping down as Offaly Manager after been in charge for the last two years.
"While in charge, Emmet showed great loyalty, commitment and 100% dedication to the long term future of Offaly football.
"He worked tireously and left no stone unturned in his quest to return Offaly football to the top table, but sadly his time in charge was not very fruitful."
"Offaly County Board wishes to sincerely thank Emmet and his management team (Gordon McDonnell, Paul Mollen and Ronan Heavey) and all the members of his backroom team for their work and would like to wish Emmet and his team the very best for the future.?"
