Quigley: I'd quit football rather than leave Pat's

Mark Quigley says he would rather retire than change clubs if he can't force his way back into the St Patrick's Athletic side.

The 28-year-old scored his first league goal of the season against Bohemians last week and has found game time limited due to injuries and the form of his team-mates.

"It's crossed my mind this season — this is probably my last season if I can't get into the team," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"I don't really fancy dropping down levels and playing, with all respect, for lower teams. I'm a better player than to be playing in the First Division or dropping down to avoid relegation.

"I want to play at the top team and, for me, Pat's is the top team. And if I can't play, sometimes I say to myself 'will I even bother playing next year?'

"Hopefully scoring against Bohs will be the turning point for me and I can play more games and not hang the boots up."

"I think I am good enough to play but if the lads are scoring every week, there is nothing I can do and there's nothing the manager can do.
