Tyros attracts just three runners

Ger Lyons is looking to secure back-to-back wins in the Japanese Racing Authority Tyros Stakes when Convergence runs at Leopardstown on Thursday.

Exogenesis claimed the spoils for Lyons 12 months ago and Convergence is one of just three runners declared for the Group Three over seven furlongs.

The most experienced horse in the field, the Cape Cross colt has improved with racing and had Aidan O'Brien's Gleneagles, whom he meets again, back in fourth when winning last time out.

"He deserves to take his chance. He has already beaten Aidan's horse, who looks likely to go off favourite, so we'll take our chance and hope for the best," said Lyons.

"With the conditions of the race I don't know why there are so few runners."

Completing the field is Dermot Weld's Tombelaine, owned by Khalid Abdullah and a comfortable winner from a subsequent 12-length scorer, Highland Reel, on his debut.

"He's a progressive colt and we're hoping he runs well. It looks a very high-quality race," said Weld.
