Doyle makes two changes for third-place play-off

Head coach Philip Doyle has made two changes to the Ireland team to take on France in the IRB Women's Rugby World Cup third-place play-off on Sunday (3.30pm Irish time).

Doyle has kept faith with the majority of the side that were beaten by England in Wednesday's semi-final, however, Jenny Murphy, has been named in the side and makes her first start of the tournament,

Murphy will start at inside-centre with Grace Davitt moving to outside-centre.

In the back row, Siobhan Flemming is named at blindside and Paula Fitzpatrick movies to No. 8.

Doyle said, "It has been a fantastic World Cup for women's rugby in Ireland and ideally we will finish it off with a winning performance."

Winger Alison Miller agrees, saying she wants to put the disappointment of defeat to England behind her by claiming third place.

Despite a crushing loss to England in the semi-final on Wednesday, Miller, a try-scorer in the historic win against New Zealand, recognises that even getting to that point provided a new benchmark in the women's game.

"Before this World Cup an Irish team had never got to the semi-final stage so to get to that stage was a huge achievement," the Laois woman told RTÉ Sport.

"I know it didn't go the way we wanted it to and we'd huge ambitions but we move on to the next step and that's the third place.

"That's somewhere that would be a fantastic achievement for the team, considering everyone that's come before us, players and management.

"We're looking forward to the game."
