Kompany to be added to Phoenix field

Richard Hannon's prolific juvenile Kool Kompany is set to be supplemented for Sunday's Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

The Jeremy colt has won five times from six starts during his debut season, with his only defeat coming when failing to fire in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He has since proved that running all wrong with victories in the Railway Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte, and connections are keen to test the water at Group One level in Ireland this weekend.

Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: "He is entered in the Prix Morny, but as usual the Hannon team have a lot of good two-year-olds to juggle with the likes of Ivawood, Tiggy Wiggy and Estidhkaar also in the mix along with Kool Kompany.

"Richard Hannon will ring me in the morning with a gallops report, but assuming all is well with Kool Kompany and he's thriving, the plan is to supplement him for the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

"We could go for the Gimcrack or the Mill Reef with a Group Two penalty, or we could chase the money down the sales race route, but we think he deserves his shot at Group One level.

"I think it costs €20,000 to supplement, so if we do supplement him he's going to run and if he finishes third we'll pretty much get our money back.

"Group Ones are only going to get more difficult as the season progresses, so we think now is the right time to have a go and he can always go back down to a Group Two or go for a sales race if he's not up to it."

Eddie Lynam believes fast ground will increase the chances of Anthem Alexander continuing her fine summer form.

The young daughter of Starspangledbanner has already struck gold in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and is now set to step back up to six furlongs at the weekend.

That is, however, under the assumption that conditions remain on the brisk side at the Kildare track.

Lynam told the Irish Times: "If the ground at the Curragh is good or quicker we will go there very hopeful.

"If it is the slow side of good we will go there with our fingers crossed.

"And if it is soft or heavy we probably won't go there at all.

"Basically, the quicker the ground the better her chance.

"Pat (Smullen) sat on her after the last Leopardstown meeting and was very happy with her.

"She's in very good form but we will just have to see what the weather does with the ground at the Curragh.

"At this time of year it could dry out very quickly.

"If she were to win on Sunday it would be my first Group One in Ireland and it would mean a lot.

"It would be even better if it was at the old Phoenix Park in the '1500' but winning at the Curragh would be great for all concerned with her."
