McGeeney tipped to take Armagh reins

Kieran McGeeney is expected to be ratified for a three-year term as Armagh manager at a meeting of the county board tonight.

The former All-Ireland winning defender managed Kildare for six seasons and was a selector for outgoing Armagh boss Paul Grimley this term.

It's not known whether Grimley's other selectors, Martin McQuillan and Peter McDonnell, himself a former Armagh manager, will play a role in McGeeney's back-room team.

Another one-time Armagh boss Jim McCorry, currently manager of Down champions Kilcoo, has been linked with both a supporting role with his native county and the vacant Down job but has played down the speculation .

"All I'm hearing is rumours these days," McCorry told the Irish News. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm Kilcoo manager and I'm getting ready for the next round of the championship. Until somebody asks you to do a job, you get on with the job you have."

"It would be a great honour to be involved with Armagh again and especially to work with Kieran McGeeney. It would be a great honour if Down asked me to be their manager.

"It would be fantastic if that was the case but unfortunately that hasn't happened."
