Brogan to decide on future before Christmas

Alan Brogan has said committing to Dublin football is not something he could do in "half-measures" and he will decide on his future over the coming months.

In the immediate aftermath of Dublin's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final loss to Donegal there were reports, quickly quashed by Brogan, that he had retired from Jim Gavin's panel.

Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke programme, Brogan said he did not know where the rumours of his retirement had started, but that it was still too soon to make a final decision on the issue.

"I don't think in the immediate aftermath of a game like that, or even two weeks after it, is the time to be making a huge decision like that," Brogan said.

"It will probably be tough to watch next weekend" - Alan Brogan

"I'll take some time off now, and maybe sit down with family and people I trust over the next few months, and we'll make a decision before Christmas.

"The time that goes into it now, you have to be really, really committed to it. It's not something you can in half-measures, so it'll be a big decision but I'll take my time with it."

Reflecting on where the game went wrong, Brogan said that Dublin had left themselves open at the back, and that there was a learning curve to be taken from it.

He said "it was, obviously, difficult at the time" and that "it will probably be tough to watch next weekend" but that "time heals all wounds".

Brogan downplayed any notion that high expectations had overwhelmed Dublin.

"There was a huge expectation, but I think that's always there in Dublin, particularly over the last few years," he said.

"That's something that's built up from the outside; we tend not to pay too much attention to that."

Looking ahead to next weekend's final, he said it was very difficult to pick a winner between Donegal and Kerry, but ultimately tipped Jim McGuinness' men to come through.

"Kerry will [have learned] a huge amount from watching Donegal's win against us, but I think Donegal will be high in confidence," he said. "I'd go for them by a couple of points."
