Dublin football star Jonny Cooper is recovering in hospital after he was the victim of a knife attack in the capital in the early hours of this morning.
The Na Fianna defender is believed to have been assaulted on Dorset Street on the north side of the city at around 0500.
The 24-year-old was brought to the Mater Hospital for treatment where his injuries were found not to be life-threatening.
Cooper tweeted at 1630 to thank the public for all their support since the incident.
And Cooper's father Brendan wrote on Facebook: "Jonathan is recovering well and is expected to be released later this afternoon."
Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
Cooper had played for his club on Friday night as they were knocked out of the Dublin Senior Football Championship by Templeogue Synge Street.
