Irish cricket has been given a multi-million euro boost as a 10-year sponsorship deal with the Indian conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Group was confirmed this afternoon.
The sponsorship agreement includes naming rights for the Cricket Ireland Academy, which will now be known as the Shapoorji Pallonji Cricket Ireland Academy.
The group, which has over 26,000 employees, will also become an official partner to Cricket Ireland.
They are owned by the Mistry family, an Irish family based in Mumbai in India.
"We are immensely proud to have found the perfect partner to share that vision"
Chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group of Companies, Shapoor Mistry, said he feels the agreement is a small contribution as a token of gratitude towards Ireland.
Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom stated the academy can offer a bright future for players: "The development of our next generation of international cricketers in the national academy is one of our most important tasks, and requires significant investment, understanding and an ability to take the long view.
"In the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, we are immensely proud to have found the perfect partner to share that vision, and help us mould our nation's cricketing future for at least the next 10 years.
"We are delighted to welcome Shapoorji Pallonji Group to the Irish cricket family and look forward to developing not just our players but our relationship, and that of Ireland and India, over the next decade."
The academy will aim to identify and support the most talented young male and female players in the country.
Initally there will be 22 inductees, both men and women, into the inaugural academy which will be overseen by manager Craig Hogan.
Australian-born Hogan is the former national coach and high performance manager of Jersey.
