PRO12 teams: Munster ring the changes

Munster head coach Anthony Foley has made eight changes to his starting XV for the Stephen's Day showdown with Leinster in the Guinness PRO12.

The returning trio of Duncan Casey, CJ Stander and Tommy O'Donnell all start this week with Casey joining John Ryan and Stephen Archer in the front row.

Munster's most capped player Donncha O'Callaghan is promoted from the bench this week and starts next to Billy Holland while in the backrow Robin Copeland retains his place at 8 with Stander and O'Donnell coming in at 6 and 7.

Duncan Williams and Ian Keatley renew their half-back pairing as Hurley, Howard and Conway stay as they were with Ronan O'Mahony coming in on the wing, and Felix Jones at fullback as he captains the side for the third time. 

Those not available for selection this week through the national player management programme included Paul O'Connell, Peter O'Mahony, Conor Murray and Simon Zebo.

Richardt Strauss will join the Leinster centurion club as he pulls on the jersey for the 100th time when his side take on Munster on St Stephen's Day.

Strauss is one of six changes in personnel with a number of positional changes also included in O'Connor's team.

Michael Bent and Tadhg Furlong complete the front row with Strauss, but Mike McCarthy will lock down behind the trio with Kane Douglas beside him in the second row. 

In the back row, with Kevin McLaughlin out injured, Dominic Ryan comes in for his 11th start in 12 games for him so far this season. Shane Jennings has shown no ill effects from the game last week against Connacht, his first since injuring his hamstring against the same opposition in September, and captains the side at openside flanker. Jack Conan completes the back row.  

There are two personnel changes in the backs with Darragh Fanning and Gordon D'Arcy coming in from the start.

With Fanning coming onto the right wing, Zane Kirchner moves to full back in place of Rob Kearney, with Dave Kearney continuing on the left wing.

The Connacht team to face Ulster shows six changes from the team that travelled to play Leinster last week.

Darragh Leader, the sole squad member to have been involved in every game so far this season, starts at full back. In the absence of Ireland international Robbie Henshaw, who is rested this week as part of the IRFU player welfare programme, Bundee Aki shifts to outside centre to allow November Player of the Month Dave McSharry come in at number 12.

After making three PRO12 appearances from the bench, on-loan scrum half John Cooney gets his first start in Connacht colours, partnering Jack Carty at half back.

Up front, the props are rotated with Ronan Loughney and Finlay Bealham starting this week with Tom McCartney at hooker.

Willie Faloon is named at openside flanker in a back row with captain John Muldoon and last week's try scorer George Naoupu.

Ulster have made seven changes to their starting XV for the sold-out fixture against Connacht at Kingspan Stadium on St Stephen's Day.

In the absence of Rory Best, who is rested along with Tommy Bowe, Roger Wilson will captain the side in what will be his 300th professional match.

There is a new half back pairing with Paddy Jackson returning in place of Ian Humphreys at number 10 and Paul Marshall deputising for Ruan Pienaar, who has failed to recover from a knee injury picked up against Ospreys at the weekend. Wingers Craig Gilroy and Peter Nelson are the other new faces in the backline, replacing Bowe and Michael Allen respectively.

Rob Herring starts at hooker in place of Best and is joined in an all-new front row by props Callum Black and Wiehahn Herbst. The remainder of the pack is unchanged from the game at Liberty Stadium, with Dan Tuohy and Franco van der Merwe continuing their partnership at lock and Robbie Diack, Clive Ross and Wilson again combining in the back row.

Hughes Insurance Ulster Academy hooker John Andrew is named on the bench and will earn his second cap if called upon, while Michael Heaney is the only other addition to the match day squad from last week.
