Rory Patterson will be looking for a new club ahead of the 2015 SSE Airtricity League season as the striker parted ways with Derry City this morning.
The Northern Ireland striker has spent the past three seasons at the Brandywell, scoring 54 goals in 84 appearance for the Candystripes.
Patterson was the league's top scorer in 2013 with 18 goals, while he managed 11 league goals last season in a year that saw him fall out with then manager Roddy Collins.
Peter Hutton took over as City manager after Collins departed midway through last season but the new boss has decided to allow the player to leave despite being under contract for the coming season.
Patterson helped City land the FAI Cup in 2012, scoring a penalty minutes after coming on as a substitute, before grabbing an extra-time winner in the 3-2 victory over St Patrick's Athletic.
A statement on the Derry City website confirmed Patterson's exit, stating: "Derry City manager Peter Hutton has announced that striker Rory Patterson has left the club this morning.
"Derry City FC would like to thank Rory Patterson for his commitment & service during his time with the club. As a club we would also like to wish him well in his future whatever he decides to do."
Patterson released his feeling on the matter through his personal Twitter account @RoryP84, explaining that he felt it was in his own and the club's best interests that he departs as he did not want to start pre-season, not knowing where he was going to finish it.
Patterson also said that many of the rumours of where he would be playing next season were lies and that now he can sit back in peace and decide what to do next.
