The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced the signing of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as a designated player from July.
Earlier today Galaxy coach Bruce Arena also confirmed in a newspaer interview Gerrard would be joining the MLS champions.
"Steven Gerrard arrives in July and by then we will certainly have a plan available," Arena, who has led the club to three Major League Soccer titles in four years, told the LA Times.
"He's a player of quality. I'm not concerned about how he's going to fit in with our team.
"We have a club now with a proven history of success. All those things go hand in hand in making LA Galaxy a very attractive team for players such as Steven Gerrard."
Galaxy president Chris Klein described the Reds captain as "the perfect fit".
"We just started thinking in the universe of players that are out there, we want to make a decision on what signifies a Galaxy-designated player.
"When we look at that, Steven Gerrard is the perfect fit with what he brings to us on the field and the character that he has off it."
Gerrard joins Republic of Ireland international, and former Liverpool team-mate Robbie Keane at Galaxy.
The Irishman has enjoyed a hugely successful four years in Los Angeles, winning three titles and being voted the league's MVP this season.
"I want to finish my career very strong. I want to add some medals and trophies to my collection." - Steven Gerrard
In announcing his decision to leave Liverpool, ending an association he has had since he was eight, Gerrard stressed he could not play for another European club if there was a chance they would come up against his boyhood side.
That is partly the reason he made the life-changing decision to move to the United States, and he believes Galaxy is the ideal destination.
"I think it's a match made in heaven really," Gerrard told the newspaper.
"One of the reasons I chose LA Galaxy was because of the success they've had recently.
"I want to finish my career very strong. I want to add some medals and trophies to my collection."
Meanwhile, Gerrard admits he is keen on a management job in the future but insists that even if Liverpool had made him the offer of a coaching position with a new contract he would not have accepted it.
"It wouldn't have made any difference. I'm not ready for that yet. I've just got my C Licence and I'm about to start my UEFA B Licence at the end of January," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"You can't just roll into something. I only want to become a coach, an assistant or a manager if I am good enough and believe I can help and do well.
"I want to get my qualifications over the next couple of years while I'm away and try to learn the coaching side of it.
"I don't want to manage Liverpool or any other club because I've been a good player or because I'm Steven Gerrard."
"Then I'll decide whether I want to be a coach or stay involved in the game when I stop playing. Management is a possibility for the future. It's a dream and aspiration of mine.
"I don't want to manage Liverpool or any other club because I've been a good player or because I'm Steven Gerrard."
"Hopefully after I finish playing I'll be in a position to serve Liverpool again.
"But I don't want to manage Liverpool or any other club because I've been a good player or because I'm Steven Gerrard.
"You have to get a certain level of experience over a period of time. If I feel I can do well at it then I'll go down that route."
Gerrard admits had the club offered him a new contract last summer he would not be bringing an end to his long association with the Reds.
A contract offer was not made to Gerrard, who turns 35 in May, until November - by which time he had already been told by Brendan Rodgers his playing time would be managed.
Such a tactic had already seen him left on the bench for Liverpool's Champions League match against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu and that, combined with the delay in offering him an extension, resulted in the player coming to a decision about his future.
