Galway All Star hurler Damien Hayes has retired from the inter-county side ahead of the 2015 season.
The Portumna man has been playing for Galway's senior side since the turn of the century, amassing a record-breaking 52 Championship appearances for the Tribesmen.
The Galway forward won three All Star awards throughout his career and played for Galway in the All-Ireland finals in 2005 against Cork and against Kilkenny in 2012 where the ribesmen fell at the final hurdle once more.
Speaking to the GPA website, Hayes said: "I've loved my time with Galway and don't regret a single minute of it.
"Yes, not winning an All-Ireland was unfortunate, but I see that as a disappointment, not the end of the world.
"I'm extremely proud to have won a Leinster and two National League medals, I made great friends in the Galway dressing-room and I will always back the current players to win that first All-Ireland since 1988."
Hayes scored 25 Championship goals for Galway, while the corner-forward has also won three All-Ireland medals with club side Portumna.
