Under his stewardship, Kevin Walsh is determined that Galway will be "competitive every single day they go out to play football."
Those were the words said in the aftermath of the Tribesmen's win over Meath in Division 2 of the Allianz League on Sunday.
While many pundits believe Galway should be challenging to get promotion from the second tier, Walsh is keen to get in place a squad that will work hard for each other and leave everything on the field of play.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, he said: "It's important for us to get a team playing everyday that is competitive.
"Of course we want to get promoted, but at the end of the day we need to put a process in place where players know what they're doing and work really hard for each other.
"The results will take care of itself if we get the process right."
To further emphasise his point, Walsh spoke about players having to fight for their places in his squad in light of the Corofin contingent being absent as they prepare for their All-Ireland club semi-final and others on the injured list.
"One man's gain is another man's opportunity," he added.
"A lot of the lads showed against Meath that they want to hold on to the jersey.
"If somebody is in there, it's a case of another coming in and trying to knock them out.
"That's what I want in Galway; lads having to work hard to get their place back on the team."
As to the victory itself over the Royals, Walsh was more than happy with the outcome but, as is the way with most managers, he feels there is room for improvement.
"It's great to get the points. I don't think we were led at any stage.
"There were times in the game where Meath came back into it. At one stage in the first half we didn't score for nearly 20 minutes. We dropped four balls into the goalies hands and hit two scoreable frees wide.
"If we had taken half of those, then that's three points. At least we were creating chances, so that's a positive. Every team will have some period of dominance in the game."
