'Unusual' Walter Walsh impresses Dónal Óg Cusack

Walter Walsh is an "unusual" hurler but fits the Kilkenny mould perfectly, according to Dónal Óg Cusack.

The man of the match from the 2012 All-Ireland final replay was played at centre-forward for the Cats' 1-22 to 2-17 Allianz Hurling League win over Cork on Saturday evening and notched up three points.

And triple All-Ireland winner Cusack says that, despite some indifferent form since making his championship debut as a corner-forward in the replayed decider against Galway, he has all the attributes that are at the heart of the Leinster side.

"Like most of the Kilkenny team, he was stronger, more aggressive, not in a bad way, but more aggressive than their opponents," Cusack told RTÉ Sport.

"To be fair to him, again, like all the rest of the Kilkenny players, he's well able to give it but he's well able to take it as well.

"He's an unusual type of player. He is the kind of fellow who would find space in a revolving door. He was on Mark Ellis, who has been a big player for Cork over the last couple of years but Walter Walsh absolutely dominated him.

"And I know he burst on to the scene in the All-Ireland final a couple of years ago, maybe his form has been in and out since then but I was really impressed with him at centre-forward."
