Galway 0-10 Cavan 0-12

Five points from substitute Martin Dunne saw Cavan defeat Galway 0-12 to 0-10 in their Allianz Football League Division Two encounter at Pearse Stadium.

Galway led 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time with Cavan struggling to get scores. Galway goakeeper Manus Breathnach saved Dunne's penalty in the 29th minute but this didn't deter the visitors.

They were much improved in the second half and outscored their hosts by seven points. Galway struggled against the wind in the second half and shot a couple of disappointing wides.

Cavan kept Galway scoreless for the final twenty minutes to secure their second win of the league campaign.

Galway won the toss and elected to play with the wind. They made this advantage count as they led 0-3 to 0-0 after 13 minutes with Paul Conroy (2) and Michael Martin doing the damage.

Cavan struggled to break down the Galway defence and managed just two points in the first half. The second of these came from Dunne who was introduced after 23 minutes.

The Cavan Gaels clubman saw his penalty saved by Breathnach with the score at 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of the Tribesman. Galway finished the first half well with three points in a row. Martin (free) and Damien Comer ('45) got the first two of these before Danny Cummins blazed the ball over the bar with just goalkeeper Conor Gilsenan to beat.

Cavan were quick out of the blocks in the second half and Niall McDermott got the first point of the half inside the first twenty seconds. Martin scored his third free of the contest three minutes later before Cavan scored four unanswered points to get to within two points of the hosts.

Comer got his third point of the game after 48 minutes but Cavan resumed their scoring dominance shortly after as Geraoid McKiernan, Dunne (2) and Tomas Corr all raised white flags in the space of ten minutes.

Cavan survived an aerial bombardment from Galway and Martin Reilly scored a last minute free from 45 metres out to seal the win for Terry Hyland's charges.
