LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane has said the team have not been distracted by the threat of a players' strike as they prepare to host Chicago Fire in their opening match of the 2015 Major League Soccer season on Friday.
MLS was on the verge of a players' strike as talks on a new collective contract had failed to bring a deal as the start of the new season loomed, however, a new five-year deal was reached overnight.
"The team is prepared, as much as we can be with all the nonsense going on in the background," said Keane.
"It certainly doesn't help probably the league but we can only be focused as we can and prepare ourselves mentally in the right way, which we have been with the training we have been doing.
"So hopefully now we can just get the game on Friday."
The Dubliner believes he and Bruce Arena's charges can cope with the pressure of being reigning champions and go on and defend their title.
"There's always pressure on you when you're winning championships and there's always teams who want to, who certainly want to beat you; we're the reigning champions.
"We've had that for four years since I've been here; every team wants to always beat the LA Galaxy because we're one of the best teams and we've proven that with three championships in four years.
"So that's something that the players should be excited about and looking forward to because this is why we play the game."
The new deal includes a rise in the minimum wage in the league and the overall team salary cap, although full details are yet to be announced.
Former England midfielders Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will join their MLS franchises, LA Galaxy and New York City respectively, at the end of the current Premier League season.
