Ervedya and Ride Like The Wind score in France

Ervedya stamped her class on the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte to win for Jean-Claude Rouget and Christophe Soumillon.

Having shown top-class form at two the only real question was whether she had trained on or not and she answered that in no uncertain terms.

The field split into two groups and Ervedya was on the far side for the first half of the race, but Soumillon spotted Ameenah making a break on the near side and he switched his mount to track her.

She was still travelling well within herself and without getting serious, Soumillon nudged his mount clear and she quickened impressively.

Ervedya was entitled to win having been a close third behind The Wow Signal in the Prix Morny and second to Aidan O'Brien's Found in the Prix Marcel Boussac.

Despite having no answer to the impressive winner in heavy ground, Ameenah stuck on for second, clear of Queen Bee in third.

Miss France was beaten in the corresponding race 12 months ago before winning the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, while Natagora in 2008 was the last filly to complete the double.

Freddy Head landed back-to-back renewals of the Prix Djebel when Ride Like The Wind came from last to first to deny Make Believe.

Head's winner 12 months ago, Charm Spirit, met with defeat only once last season, when fifth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

He ended up winning the Prix Jean Prat, the Moulin and the QEII so Ride Like The Wind has plenty to live up to.

Andre Fabre's Make Believe looked in control throughout and seemed set to extend his unbeaten run to three but Mickael Barzalona produced Ride Like The Wind with a powerful run to get the verdict close home.

The result was something of a surprise given Ride Like The Wind was beaten on the all-weather at Deauville last month.

He finished behind Ervedya at Deauville last August and was sixth of the nine runners in the Prix Morny.

"He tends to be keen, but when he learns to race he will be very good" - Freddy Head on Ride Like The Wind

Head is considering the Qipco 2000 Guineas for the winner, although a trip to the Rowley Mile is not set in stone as yet.

"He was impressive, he's a good horse," he said.

"I ran him in some tough races last year, but I always felt he was good.

"We could aim him at England, but I need to discuss it with his owners. Last year we took Charm Spirit and because of the way the race was run it didn't suit him and I think he would have won in France (French Guineas).

"The way this one runs I think Newmarket will suit him, though.

"They are two different types, I always felt he was good but maybe I asked him too much too soon last year.

"He has changed a lot this winter. He tends to be keen, but when he learns to race he will be very good."
