GAA digest: Cooper and Galvin on bench for Kerry

Colm Cooper and Paul Galvin have been named among the subs for Kerry's trip to Tyrone on Sunday.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice's side need to avoid losing to stay in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

Cooper hasn't lined out for Kerry since the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Dublin in 2013 after suffering a cruciate ligament and knee fracture in action for his club Dr Crokes a year ago.

Galvin recently rejoined the Kerry panel after reversing the decision he made to retire in 2014.

Kerry: B Kealy; P Murphy, M Griffin, S Enright; J Lyne, P Crowley, K Young; A  Maher, D Moran; A Fitzgerald, B Sheehan, J Buckley; S O'Brien, K Donaghy (capt), BJ Keane.

Kerry's opponents Tyrone have made two changes to the side that lost by 10 points to Donegal last week.

Sean Cavanagh and Ryan McKenna, who were both initially named to play against Donegal, return in place of their replacements that day, Conor Clarke and Ronan O'Neill.

Tyrone: N Morgan; A McCrory, R McNamee, C McCarron; R McNabb, Justin McMahon, P Harte; C Cavanagh, P McNulty; T McCann, M Donnelly, R McKenna; D McCurry, S Cavanagh (capt), C McAliskey.

Cork, who have already secured their place in the league semi-finals, have made seven changes for their trip to Derry.

Tom Clancy and Stephen O'Donoghue come into the defence with Patrick Kelly at midfield.

Up front John O'Rourke, Barry O'Driscoll, Daniel Goulding and John Hayes start.

James Loughrey, Brian Hurley, Colm O'Neill, Kevin O'Driscoll and Colm O'Driscoll are on the bench. Jamie O'Sullivan is injured while Brian O'Driscoll has U21 commitments.

Derry make three switches following their much maligned defeat to Dublin.

Eoin McNicholl replaces Thomas Mallon in goal, All-Star nominee Mark Lynch comes in for Eoin Bradley at midfield and Terence O'Brien starts at full-forward in place of Emmett McGuckin.

Derry: E McNicholl; O Duffy, N Holly, K Johnston; L McGoldrick, C McAtamney, M McIver; M Lynch, F Doherty; SL McGoldrick, D Heavron, E Lynn; B Heron, T O'Brien, J Kielt.

Monaghan have named an unchanged side from the XV that beat All-Ireland champions Kerry in Tralee.

Monaghan: R Beggan; K Duffy, D Wylie, R Wylie; F Kelly, V Corey, K O'Connell; N McAdam, D Hughes; D Mone, P Finlay, O Duffy; D Malone, K Hughes, C McManus.

The only change for Mayo against Donegal is in goal as Kenneth O'Malley takes over from David Clarke.

Mayo: K O'Malley; G Cafferkey, K Keane, K Higgins; L Keegan, C Boyle, D Vaughan; B Moran, T Parsons; K McLoughlin, A O'Shea, J Doherty; M Ronaldson, D Kirby, A Dillon.

Seamus Callanan looks set to miss Tipperary's Allianz Hurling League semi-final against Waterford after his appeal against the red card he received in the quarter-final win over Offaly was rejected by the CHC.

The Central Hearings Committee upheld Callanan's dismissal for "striking with his hurley with minimal force" and subsequent one-match ban.

Callanan's team-mate Cathal Barrett, who was sent off for a second yellow card in the same game, failed in his appeal against the first yellow he was shown.

Tipperary said they were "awaiting the final wording of the committee decision before deciding on further action" and could yet appeal the decisions to the Central Appeals Committee.

Clare's Colm Galvin has confirmed he will miss the start of this year's hurling championship as he plans to travel to the United States after the end of the college year at Mary Immaculate College.

However, the 22-year-old midfielder said manager Davy Fitzgerald had left the door open for a return later in the year - if he was willing to fight for a place on the panel.

"If I didn't do it this year, I wouldn't do it," the Clonlara man said. "I've been thinking about doing this for the last two or three years. The big thing is that I have no exams at all so I don't have to worry about that. And I'm not back in college until September.

"Davy's been very good. I let him know around December and he had an inkling that I might be going. I brought it up again around February and he's been very supportive.

"He said that there would be a place there for me when I come back but that I'd have to fight hard. I couldn't ask for any more than that.

"Trying to walk back into a team and a panel training like dogs would be very hard. I'm not sure what date I'll be back. I don't know myself and that's the truth. It depends on how I get on out there. I don't have a return flight booked.

"Davy tried to get me to stay on a few occasions but I had my mind made up and he understood where I was coming from. And there's no doubt that myself and Davy will still be in contact while I'm away."
