Rock On Ruby ready for Relkeel

Harry Fry believes Rock On Ruby has got lots in favour as he goes for his first win over the smaller obstacles since February 2013 in the Osborne House Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The 2012 Champion Hurdle hero failed to make the grade over fences at the top level last season but showed he still retained plenty of ability when running The New One to a head in the Aintree Hurdle in April.

Fry reports the nine-year-old to have benefited from his reappearance in the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton five weeks ago.

"I'm looking forward to running him back up in trip. His Elite run has brought him on nicely," said the Seaborough handler.

"I'm very happy with him at home and it will be a good guide as to where we go for the rest of the season.

"The fact he hasn't got a penalty for the first time for ages in a hurdle race is a real plus.

"The ground is good to soft, with no more rain forecast, so that should be ideal."

Paul Nicholls feels Lac Fontana's liking for the track will stand him in good stead.

"He loves Cheltenham. He's won there three so hopefully we will get a good show from him," the Ditcheat trainer told At The Races.

"Two and a half suits him well now. He wouldn't want too much rain but he should be OK there.

"He'll be a nice chaser in time but it's pointless doing that this season. Hopefully he'll win a nice hurdle race somewhere."

Hughie Morrison feels obliged to run Brother Brian due to the lack of opportunities.

The six-year-old has shown progressive form in handicaps, winning over the course in April and making a successful reappearance at Kempton last month.

"I'm probably foolish destroying his handicap rating, but there are so few races that I didn't want to end up running him over three miles on heavy ground," said the East Ilsley trainer.

"As long as the ground is not appalling he'll run tomorrow.

"I'm not that positive other than he's a nice horse for the future."

The Nicky Henderson-trained Volnay De Thaix, who was fourth when favourite for the Fixed Brush Hurdle at Haydock, and Neil King's Saffron Wells complete a small but interesting field of five for the Grade Two heat.
