Ireland's Rose-Anne Galligan has failed to qualify for the 800 metres semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.
The Newbridge AC runner finished seventh in heat two in two minutes 02.05 seconds.
American Alysia Johnson Montano won the heat in 1:59.47.
Galligan set a new personal best and broke Sonia O'Sullivan's national record in this event at the London Diamond League last month, when she ran a time of 2:00.58.
"I was ranked 28th coming into the championships and knew only 16 would progress, so I knew I had a very slim chance of getting through, but I was determined," she said.
"I'll learn from this race. I'll take it as motivation into next year for World Indoors and European Outdoors. I gave it all I had out there today and I am proud of myself for that."
Paul Pollock - Ireland's only remaining athlete in Moscow - will run in the marathon this Saturday at 1.30pm Irish time.
